Move to destination folder & reference files

Post  hotchoc on Thu Mar 05, 2009 6:27 am

I just wanted to say, I like the way you have implemented the "Move to Destination Folder" option when using reference files. I'm glad that the reference files seem to get copied to the iTunes folder, rather than into the destination folder with the media files. While it does mean you have to remember both files if you want to delete them from your library/system completely - it makes it easier to manage your library of media files if you ever want to retrieve or copy them elsewhere, you don't have to pick out the media files from the reference files one by one. Thanks!

Note that if you delete a video from iTunes, the reference file will be deleted when you select 'Move to trash' in iTunes. The original file will remain on your disk.

Yeah, that's the only downside I can see to reference files. But still - I think this is the best solution so far for me. I often need to retrieve the original format for viewing on other (non-ipod) devices and have found converting back from .mov to .avi to be unreliable. Reference files obviate that need.
